Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)

Providing a language rich environment where through conversation, story-telling and role play, children can share their ideas. With support of modelling from staff, and sensitive questioning that invites them to elaborate, children become comfortable using a rich range of vocabulary and languages structures. 

Providing a warm and nurturing environment that supports children to gain a positive sense of themselves, respect for others, social skills, emotional well-being and a positive disposition to learning. Providing activities to help build friendships, ability to understand and talk about emotions and strive for school readiness.

Providing indoor and outdoor play opportunities supports children to develop their core strength, stability, balance, spatial awareness, co-ordination and agility. Gross motor skills provide the foundations for developing healthy bodies and social and emotional well-being. Fine motor control and precision helps with hand eye co-ordination which can be linked to early literacy skills. 

Providing children with experiences to explore and play with a wide range of media and materials. Providing opportunities and encouragement for sharing their thoughts, ideas and feelings through a variety of activities in art, music, movement, dance, role-play, design and technology. 

Providing children with problem solving opportunities to help develop and improve their skills in counting, understanding and using numbers, describe shapes, spaces and measures. Taking part in songs, games, stories and experiments that further explore, stretch and improve mathematical skills and language. 

Providing children with opportunities to talk about books, understand and learn more about print, work on early mark making and writing, as well as sharing books and reading together. Encouraging children to link sounds and letters and to begin to read and write.  

Providing children with experiences that help them understand their physical world and community. Helping children to develop curiosity, exploration and play. Encouraging children to engage in new experiences that guide children to explore, observe, and learn about people, places, technology, and the environment.
